Renegade

Thank You Chicago!

About a week ago we went up to Chicago for the Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market, which we’ve done every year for the past four years. We love it, and this year was no exception! The weather was great, the crowd was HUGE, and the atmosphere was festive.

A big thanks to those of you who stopped by to take a look, chat with us, and make a purchase. We loved meeting you!

Also, we got to see some unexpected familiar faces, which is always great. I was super excited that one of my best college friends, Erin, made the two hour drive down from Milwaukee to Chicago. It was SO good to see you Erin! And, a special thanks goes out to my cousin Katy and her husband Mark who braved the crowd with their six week old baby girl, Charlotte, who I got to meet for the very first time. Thanks, you guys! She is beautiful…she’ll fit right into the family!

We were really busy in our booth, but we definitely made sure to take some time to do a little shopping of our own. Beth and I both checked off several Christmas gifts from our lists, which we obviously can’t tell you about, but I did buy a fantastic screen print from an awesome little girl named Ella. Ella’s dad is Dan Grezeca, who owns Ground Up Press, which is located in Chicago. Dan always has a booth at Renegade, and every year Ella comes along with him and sells her own prints. It’s the best thing ever. According to Dan, he set up a little corner in his studio for Ella to do her own work. She’s also quite the little salesperson! I now have three Ella prints, from the last three Renegade craft fairs. It’s my favorite purchase every year. Hands down!

Here’s my collection so far. We have an owl, a pair of cardinals, and a Merry Christmas Reindeer, which is my most recent acquisition. As someone who used to spend eight hours a day teaching art to kids Ella’s age, this makes my heart so happy.

This girl is going places!

Where Are You Gonna Be This Weekend?

We’ll be in one of our favorite cities…Chicago! We’re setting up shop at the Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market, and we couldn’t be more excited! It really is one of our favorite weekends of the whole year. The Renegade crew always puts on a great event! We’re looking forward to a cozy weekend at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, and of course, we plan on doing a little holiday shopping of our own. We’ll be in the main auditorium, booth #5, right next to our hometown girl, Lily Dawson Designs. If you live in Chicago, or anywhere near Chicago, we EXPECT you to come. Really. Please don’t disappoint us.

Happy Weekend!

This week we got our first snowfall of the season! They say it is going to be a severe winter – get out the boots and hats and let the fun begin!

We spent much of this week recovering from our weekend in Chicago at the Renegade Holiday Sale. It was a busy couple of days that went by like a flash! This was our third year participating in this show, and it is one of my favorites, hands down. I think it is a combination of the hustle and bustle of the city, the big crowd of shoppers full of holiday spirit, and the close (and cozy!) quarters which forces us to get to know our neighbors real well! For the second year in a row we were placed right next to Nicole from Riproost, which was a fun surprise. She makes the most awesome boxes from reclaimed wood and found materials. I think they are pretty great, and so did everyone else. They were flying off the table!

Our new display set up worked great! For not having a very large booth area we were able to display everything so that our shoppers could see it all up close and personal.

It was non-stop busy the whole time. As always, we loved chatting with everyone who stopped by the booth. If you came by to see us, thanks!

While we were in the big city we made sure to take a little time to stop by Whole Foods. It’s a great store, we don’t have them where we live, but the main reason we went was to see our products on the shelf! Last year at the Renegade Holiday show we were approached by someone from the Whole Foods Corporation who asked if we were interested in putting some of our products in their stores. Fast forward a whole year later, and there they are! I’ll be honest, it was a thrill for us to see them there!

On the drive home from Chicago we had nice long session of talking shop, scheming, dreaming, and planning for the next couple of months. We’ve got lots of work to do!

Renegade Holiday Sale

It’s that time of year again! Time for the Chicago Renegade Holiday Sale! THIS WEEKEND!

We’re packing up and driving north for one of our favorite weekends of the year. The guys and gals at Renegade put on such a great event, and we love being a part of it! Last year was a big success, and we’re hoping for nothing less this time around! Come see us!

We have several new products that are making their debut! Our recipe binder would make a great gift for anyone who loves to spend time in the kitchen. And, our Home Sweet Home print would look fabulous on anyone’s wall.

Hot off the press this week is our bigger, more colorful, and simply more awesome version of our popular Lets Go Ride Bikes print. And don’t forget to pick up a little holiday card to send to someone special!

We’ve had some help in the wood shop over the last couple of weeks building a brand spanking new display for our letterpress goods. We’re ready, and we can’t wait to see you! If you are anywhere near Chicago this weekend come to the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse. I really can’t think of a better place to shop for the holidays!

Renegade Craft Fair 2011

We did it. The Chicago Renegade Craft Fair is in the books, and we’re chalking it up as a success. It was two days of non-stop work, and we came home exhausted, but it was an incredible experience! Seven blocks of Division Street were shut down for the whole weekend as 300 vendors set up shop. And the people came. Lots of people came.

This was our first time at a big outdoor show, and we were prayin’ that it wouldn’t rain, because rain and paper products wouldn’t exactly get along. The weekend turned out to be BEAUTIFUL.

Our 2012 Calendar was on full display, and customers seemed to love it! In fact, we sold every last one that we took with us, and people were asking for more.

Our booth was busy the entire time. SO many people came by, and it was great talking to our customers. We love getting feedback on our work, and seeing people’s reactions when they come in. Since we sell so much through Etsy and wholesale we don’t often get that face to face time with the people who are actually buying our products. We loved it! Thanks to those of you who stopped in to do a little shopping.

We all took turns sneaking away from our booth to do some shopping of our own. It was fun to re-connect with friends that we’ve made through doing the Renegade Holiday show the past couple of years. We also got to meet a lot of new people who I’m sure we’ll be crossing paths with in the future. It is pretty awesome to be a part of the Renegade community – there is a lot of amazing talent out there!

Of course, we made a stop at the Renegade Handmade Store, which makes it’s permanent home on Division Street, and we left them with a brand new batch of 1canoe2 products. Bonus points if you can spot our thank you notes in the display above.

What a great weekend! Thank you to everyone who came to see us. We love sending our letterpress goodness out into the world. And, a big huge thanks to the Renegade gang for making this gigantic event happen. I can’t imagine all of the hard work and organization it takes to pull off a big event like this. Good job. We’ll be back.

Renegade Craft Fair!

Next weekend we’re taking this show on the road, and heading up to Chicago for the Renegade Craft Fair. We have a lot to do to get ready, including printing the last two colors on some brand spankin’ new designs.

We have participated in Renegade’s holiday sale for the last two years, but we have yet to experience the full fledged, original, close down the street and let the whole city in, big craft fair. Those guys and gals in the Renegade gang sure do know how to throw a great event. The fair will stretch for seven city blocks and include 300 booths! We’re pretty pumped to be a part of it. And, we’d be SO thrilled to meet some of you, our readers. If you are in the Chicago area next weekend, come on down to Division Street in Wicker Park and say hello. We’ll be in booth #131, between Wood and Paulina Street , waiting for you.

Renegade Holiday Sale

For the second year in a row we decided to make the trek up to Chicago to be a part of the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair, and it turned out to be a GREAT weekend. Since Beth is just a few weeks out from having her baby, she decided that it might be best to stay home where she could get a little more rest. I (Carrie) was obviously a bit disappointed to be going without my sidekick, but we all knew that it would be for the best. So I recruited a team. They dubbed themselves The A Team. And they were awesome. The line-up…Karen, (sis-in-law), and Dustin and Melissa (brother and sis-in-law).

We left Mid-Missouri early on Friday evening. Everything was going great until we got to central Illinois and ran straight into a snowstorm. For about 200 miles we averaged maybe 35 mph. Dustin handled it great…and the van pulled us through. We rolled into Chicago safe and sound around 3:30 am. Ouch.

Saturday morning we drug ourselves out of bed and headed straight to the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse to set up for the fair.

Our booth location was great this year. We were lucky enough to be in the auditorium on the end of a row.

Karen and Melissa did an awesome job of helping set up the booth.

It’s a challenge to fit everything into a 6×6 ft. space, but we made it work! It is really crazy to think about how much we’ve done in a year. I feel like this year we had twice the amount of products to put on display than we did last year.

Attendance was great, and we got such a great response from all the fair goers who passed by our booth.

We were also directly across from some awesome entertainment. Dustin taking in the sweet sounds of the record players…

Saturday night we went out for some deep dish Chicago pizza at Lou Malnati’s. It was SO good, but we were SO tired. We went back to our home away from home and crashed. We were lucky to stay in a really great location not too far from where Renegade took place. The street was so pretty in the snow!

We were back at it on Sunday for day 2 of the fair. It was a lot of fun looking around at all the other booths, and meeting other vendors. So many talented people!

Christmas in Chicago!

On the way out of town on Monday morning we stopped at Millennium Park to see the giant bean sculpture.

Always a fun place to take pictures!

A BIG HUGE thanks to the team for all the work that made the weekend a success!

1canoe2 ♥ Chicago

We’re a match made in heaven!

We have SO much to tell you about the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair this past weekend in Chicago. Let’s just say that we were overwhelmed and encouraged by the great response we got from everyone who stopped by to see us. We were also excited to get some love on the Renegade blog today!

More about our weekend and lots more pictures will be coming soon!
